He was a disciple of Sri Krishnamacharya, the father of modern yoga. In 1976, he co-founded the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai to teach his father's teachings. Desikachar developed the Viniyoga approach, which customizes yoga practices based on individual needs. He contributed significantly to the resurgence of Hatha yoga and authored several books, making yoga accessible and practical for everyday living.
