T. S. Kanaka, also known as Thanjavur Santana Krishnan Kanaka, was the first female neurosurgeon in Asia and one of the first female neurosurgeons worldwide. Born on March 31, 1932, and passing away on November 14, 2018, she was a pioneer in functional neurosurgery during the 1960s and 1970s and was recognized for her contributions to stereotactic surgery. Notably, she performed chronic electrode implantation in the brain in India and initiated deep brain stimulation in 1975.
