He received the prestigious Sangeetha Kalanidhi award from the Madras Music Academy in 2003. Renowned for his exceptional ability to reach upper vocal notes, Sankaranarayanan also mentored numerous musicians, including his children, Amruta and Mahadevan, as well as disciple R. Suryaprakash.
