Tadao Kanasugi was a Japanese playwright and director born on December 25, 1940, in Katsushika, Tokyo. He founded the theatre group 'Others' in 1967, which was later renamed Nakamura-za in 1971. Kanasugi was known for his works that often depicted the local life of Tokyo's downtown areas. His notable plays include 'A Restless After School,' 'Temple of Flowers,' and 'Poolside.' After the dissolution of Nakamura-za in 1990, he established Kanasugi Tadao Associates. He passed away from cancer on November 12, 1997.
