Taffara Deguefé (1926-2015) was an Ethiopian banker who served as the governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia during a tumultuous political era. He began his banking career in 1944 and studied commerce and law in Canada. Following the overthrow of Emperor Haile Selassie in 1974, he was imprisoned until 1981. After his release, he relocated to Canada. He was honored by Norway in 2011 for his contributions to Norwegian interests in Ethiopia and received an honorary doctorate from the University of British Columbia.
