Taj El-Din Hilaly (January 17, 1941 - October 5, 2023) was a prominent Australian Muslim cleric and former Mufti of Australia. Born in a rural village in Egypt, he completed his Islamic studies at Al-Azhar University. He emigrated to Australia in 1982, becoming the Imam of Lakemba Mosque in Sydney. Hilaly was elected as the Mufti of Australia in 1988 and served in that role until his resignation in June 2007. He was regarded by some as the primary representative of Australian Muslims.
