Takashi Okai (January 5, 1928 - July 10, 2020) was a renowned Japanese poet, lyricist, and literary critic. As the publisher of the Mirai Tanka Society and a member of the Japan Art Academy, he is recognized as one of the three leading figures in avant-garde tanka poetry alongside Kunio Tsukamoto and Shuji Terayama. After graduating from Keio University's medical school, he combined his career as an internist with his passion for poetry, transitioning from Romantic themes to a more nationalistic style while pioneering avant-garde tanka movements.
