He received the Seiun Award for best novel twice and authored youth literature that was adapted into dramas, films, and anime. Mayumura was also an honorary member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Japan (SFWJ). His notable contributions to literature include both speculative fiction and poetry.
