Taku Shinmura is a Japanese medical historian and professor emeritus at Kitasato University, specializing in the social history of Japanese medicine. Born in Shizuoka Prefecture, he dropped out of the doctoral program at Waseda University’s Graduate School of Letters. He received a Doctor of Letters in 1990 for his research on ancient medical officer systems and has published several significant works on medical sociology. He served as a teacher and later became a professor at institutions including Kyoto Prefectural Medical University and Kitasato University, retiring in 2012.
