Tamar Gotua was a pioneering Georgian physician, recognized as the first woman in Georgia to work in phthisiatric surgery, specializing in the surgical treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. Born on December 25, 1919, in Tbilisi, she made significant contributions to the medical field throughout her career. Achieving her Doctor of Medical Sciences degree in 1972 and becoming a professor in 1985, she was honored as Georgia's esteemed doctor in 1975. She was the daughter of writer Levan Gotua.
