Tang contested in the 2013 general election for the Bayan Baru parliamentary seat, representing the Barisan Nasional, but lost to PKR’s Sim Tze Tzin. In the 2018 general elections, he ran for the Air Putih state constituency, facing off against Lim Guan Eng of the Democratic Action Party but was unsuccessful in that contest as well.
