Tapio Korjus is a Finnish javelin thrower born on February 10, 1961, in Vehkalahti, now part of Hamina. He was one of Finland's most prominent javelin throwers in the 1980s but found significant success on the international stage at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Korjus held a strong second position throughout the competition, and in his final attempt, he achieved a remarkable throw of 84.28 meters, securing the Olympic gold medal. He outperformed young Jan Železný, who would later become a world leader in javelin throwing, and compatriot Seppi Raty.
