Tapio Mattlar is a Finnish musician, music journalist, and rural activist born on March 17, 1953, in Helsinki. He specializes in ancient instruments such as the kantele and shaman drum. Mattlar is a founder of the Finnish Village Activity Association and runs a traditional farm in Hartola. He studied journalism and ethnomusicology at the University of Helsinki. In addition to producing and hosting a Radio show, he founded the folk rock band Tarujen Saari and currently leads the Ancient Bear Cult. He has authored a book about his singer wife, Marja Mattlar.
