Tapta, born Maria Wierusz Kowalski on April 7, 1926 in Kościan, was a Belgian sculptor of Polish origin. She was instrumental in diversifying textile creation and pioneered multidisciplinary research. Through her practice and teaching at La Cambre and Tamat, she significantly influenced generations of artists. She passed away on December 27, 1997, in Brussels.
