María Tarsy Carballas Fernández, born on June 2, 1934, in Taboada, is a Spanish scientist and a pioneer in the study of genesis, classification, and cartography of soils in the temperate-humid regions of Spain. She has been associated with the CSIC since 1965 and served as a member of the Agrarian Sciences Commission and the Xunta de Gobiernu. She is also active in academia at the Institute of Agrobiological Research of Galicia in Santiago de Compostela.
