Known for his criticism of unadventurous Britpop, Parkes also wrote for various publications and contributed to BBC Radio 6 Music. In 2015, he wrote a critical article on Jeremy Corbyn's leadership for The Quietus. Additionally, he is a co-creator of the podcast Chart Music, focusing on analysis of Top Of The Pops.
