He has authored several books, including 'This Blessed Earth' and 'The Chain: Farm, Factory, and the Fate of Our Food.' Genoways is also recognized for his poetry and literary history works, including 'Walt Whitman and the Civil War.' He has received various awards and fellowships, and was the editor of the Virginia Quarterly Review from 2003 to 2012, winning six National Magazine Awards.
