Ted Szilva (1934–2016) was a notable Canadian businessman from Greater Sudbury, Ontario, primarily recognized for creating the iconic Big Nickel monument in the city. He proposed the Big Nickel in 1963 while working as a firefighter and owned it until 1981. A devout Roman Catholic, he co-managed the 'Pot `O' Gold' lottery in the 1980s to fund Catholic schools. Szilva was active in politics, running for mayor and being involved with the Liberal Party. He was honored as a member of the Order of Ontario in 2009.
