Ted Wheeler was an American middle-distance runner born on January 30, 1931, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He grew up in LaFayette, Georgia, and began his athletics career in Illinois. Wheeler competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials and qualified for the 1956 Olympics. After serving in the Army, he became a coach at the University of Iowa, eventually becoming head coach of the track team. He retired in 1996 and passed away on November 17, 2022, at the age of 91, in Iowa City.
