Mehmet Tekin Arıburun (1903-1993) was a prominent Turkish soldier and statesman born in Ishtib, Kosovo. He was the last acting President born outside modern Turkey. A graduate of the Turkish Military College and Academy, he became an Army general and Chief Commander of the Turkish Air Force. Following the 1960 coup, he transitioned to politics as a senator and served as President of the Turkish Senate. He served briefly as acting President in 1973. A polyglot, he fluently spoke several languages, representing Turkey in various international forums.
