Maria Tekla Famiglietti (1936-2020) was an Italian religious sister and the General Abbess of the Order of the Birgittines for 37 years. Joining the order at age 13, she focused on ecumenism and oversaw the establishment of chapels and annual traditions, such as singing Swedish carols. Famiglietti also founded additional monasteries, including in Cuba. A devout Catholic, she was close to Pope John Paul II and was present at his bedside during his final moments. She was buried in the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Damaso.
