She studied radio and television dramaturgy and screenwriting at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts (JAMU) in Brno, graduating in 2006. She also studied German studies at Masaryk University, earning her bachelor's degree in 2008 and a master's degree in 2010, followed by a PhD in dramatic arts in 2013 at JAMU. Semotamová translates from German and is known for her radio plays, as well as her debut prose contribution in a 2007 anthology.
