Tetsuko Takabe is a renowned Japanese agricultural scientist born in February 1947. Her research focuses on plant physiology, particularly the physiological and molecular mechanisms of plants' resistance to environmental stresses such as salinity, drought, heat, and low temperatures. Her work aims to contribute to desertification prevention by developing stress-resistant plants. She earned a Ph.D. in Agriculture from Nagoya University in 1975 and served as a professor at Meijo University, having previously been a professor at Nagoya University's Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences. In 1997, she was awarded the Saruhashi Prize for her contributions to the field.
