Miyazaki has served as a part-time lecturer at Chuo University and a visiting professor at Kyoto Sangyo University, and since April 2018, he has been a visiting professor at Soai University. He identifies as a communitarian and a Buddhist, and he hails from Kurume City in Fukuoka Prefecture. He changed his surname to that of his wife's upon marriage.
