He was studying Geology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens while working at his family's jewelry store. On July 14, 1992, he was killed in a terrorist attack by the revolutionary group 17 November during an attempt to assassinate the Minister of Finance, Giannis Paleokrassas. The attack, executed by Dimitris Koufodinas and Vasilis Georgatzos, involved a rocket launcher, which tragically resulted in Axarlian's immediate death.
