Prior to his political career, he worked as a civil servant. François became a municipal councillor in Douai in 2020 and ran for the same National Assembly seat in 2017 but was unsuccessful. He secured his position by defeating incumbent Dimitri Houbron in the 2022 legislative election and serves on the foreign affairs committee.
