He was sentenced to death in March 2007 after being convicted on December 10, 2003. Following years on death row at the Polunsky Unit, his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment without parole on February 22, 2018, shortly before his scheduled execution. His father had advocated for his commutation, emphasizing the impact of the death sentence on him as a victim once again.
