Born on December 9, 1916, he joined the Army Air Corps in 1940, flying the Bell P-39 Airacobra. After the Pearl Harbor attack, he served in Australia and Port Moresby. He achieved a total of 16 aerial victories, becoming an ace, and commanded the 39th Fighter Squadron. Tragically, he was killed on March 8, 1944, while engaged in combat operations against Japanese forces.
