Thomas J. Plewes is a retired lieutenant general who served in the United States Army and was the chief of Army Reserve from 1998 to 2002. Born on December 15, 1940, in Zeeland, Michigan, he earned a BA in economics and worked at the Department of Labor before enlisting in the Army in 1966. Plewes served actively until 1969 and returned to the Department of Labor while remaining in the Reserve. He later became the deputy and then commanding general of the Army Reserve Command, achieving promotion to lieutenant general in 2001. He was named a Fellow of the American Statistical Association in 1989.
