Thomas Marainen, also known as Lássbiet Heaikka Duommá or Duommá Marainen, is a Sami artist, reindeer herder, joik singer, and writer born on December 20, 1945, in Vuolle-Sohppar/Nedre Soppero. He learned traditional Sami crafts (duodji) from his father, but had to teach himself the art of joik as his father deemed it sinful. Marainen has released a solo yoik album and written children's books and poems, some of which have been set to music by Sami singers. He is married to Randi Marainen and is the father of musician and writer Simon Marainen.
