Thomas Rickner is an American typographer born on October 8, 1966, in Rochester, New York. He oversaw the creation of the first TrueType fonts in 1991 for the Macintosh System 7 and optimized screen fonts for Matthew Carter's Georgia, Verdana, and Tahoma. He started his typography career in 1987 and worked with several companies, including Apple, where he was head of typography, and The Font Bureau. He co-founded Ascender Corporation and developed fonts for various scripts. Recently, he contributed to Microsoft's Cleartype font package for better screen display.
