Thomas Schmid, born on October 6, 1945, near Leipzig, is a German journalist known for being the editor of the newspaper Die Welt. He was active in the West German student movement in the 1960s, participated in the spontaneity scene during the 1970s, and was involved with the Green Party politicians in the 1980s. Notably, he was the first leading activist of the 68er movement to end the Springer boycott. He should not be confused with another journalist of the same name born in 1950, who worked for taz and Frankfurter Rundschau.
