Thorvald Fredin (1928-2006) was a Swedish double bassist renowned for his long tenure with the Royal Swedish Orchestra, where he served as the principal double bass from 1958 until 1991. He studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and subsequently taught double bass there from 1961 to 1993, also engaging in methodology in his later career. Fredin was appointed as a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 1977 and became a professor in 1990.
