Tibor de Machula was a Hungarian cellist and secondary school teacher, born on June 30, 1912, in Cluj-Napoca, Hungary. He began studying music at the age of seven and quickly gained recognition, debuting with the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra at twelve. He later studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and returned to Hungary to perform internationally. Machula was the principal cellist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra from 1936 to 1947 and then continued his career in Amsterdam until his retirement in 1977. He also taught at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
