With a PhD in political science, he taught at the University of Birmingham and the University of Zimbabwe. He held various prominent positions since Zimbabwe's independence in 1980, including Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ambassador to Ethiopia, and Permanent Representative to the UN. His last role was Minister of Information and Publicity under President Robert Mugabe.
