Tiiu Parmas was an accomplished Estonian tennis player, born on December 18, 1943, in Tallinn. Competing initially as Tiiu Kivi, she became the Soviet national champion in 1968 and reached the singles third round at the 1969 French Open. Parmas was honored as the Estonian Female Athlete of the Year in 1970 and achieved significant success at the 1970 Summer Universiade, winning gold medals in both singles and mixed doubles. She married coach Jaak Parmas in 1969, adopting his surname.
