Tim Newburn is a British sociologist and criminologist, serving as a Professor of Criminology and Social Policy at the London School of Economics (LSE). He became a professor at LSE in 2002 and previously held a position at Goldsmiths, University of London. Newburn has worked at various institutions, including the British Home Office and National Institute for Social Work. He studied sociology at the University of Leicester, earning his Ph.D. in 1988. He was also the President of the British Society of Criminology from 2005 to 2008.
