Tirza Atar (born Alterman) was an Israeli poet and children's author, born on January 27, 1941, in Tel Aviv and died on September 8, 1977. She was the daughter of Zionist writer Nathan Alterman and actress Rachel Marcus. Atar served as a singer in the Israel Defense Forces and later studied acting in New York. She wrote popular children's books and songs, earning the Ze'ev Prize in 1973. One of her most known works is 'The Lion Who Loved Strawberries,' which reflects her beloved storytelling style. Atar's life ended in a tragic fall.
