Titus Pankey was an influential American physicist and professor with significant contributions to the fields of magnetic susceptibility and cosmology, particularly in supernova research. Born on November 20, 1925, he was the first recipient of a PhD in physics from Howard University and one of the first ten black individuals to earn a PhD in physics in the United States. His groundbreaking work included the suggestion that type 1a supernovae are powered by the decay of nickel-56. Pankey passed away on September 20, 2003.
