Finlay Melrose "Toby" MacDiarmid OBE was an Australian politician born on 9 May 1925 in Queanbeyan. He served in the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1973 to 1988, initially as a member of the Country Party and later as an Independent. MacDiarmid was educated at the Sydney Church of England Grammar School and briefly studied veterinary science. He was involved in rugby and served in the RAAF. In addition to his political career, he managed his father's Hereford stud and was President of the Graziers' Association from 1968 to 1972.
