Togdan Rinpoche was an esteemed Indian lama of Tibetan Buddhism, known for his leadership in the Drikung Kagyu lineage since 1943. He served as the Head Lama for all Tibetan Buddhist lineages in Ladakh. Renowned for his spiritual authority, he was also politically active, becoming the first leader of the Ladakh Action Committee in the 1960s, and later serving as Minister of State for Ladakh Affairs until his resignation in 2003. His contributions to both spirituality and regional politics marked his significance in Ladakh and Tibetan Buddhism.
