Arden studied English literature at the University of Adelaide and later taught English literature at Queen's University, Belfast, from 1990 to 1998. He dedicated himself to writing after 1998. His most significant work is the ten-part fantasy series 'Der Kreis des Orokon,' published between 1997 and 2003, and he released 'The Black Shadow' in 2002.
