Thomas Madikwe Manthata (1939-2020) was a South African anti-apartheid activist and educator. He was a prominent figure in the Black Consciousness movement and served as a founding member and general secretary of the Azanian People's Organisation. Manthata was involved in significant political activities and was convicted of treason, serving a year of a six-year sentence before it was overturned. After apartheid, he contributed to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the South African Human Rights Commission, advocating for justice and human rights.
