Tom O'Hara was an American middle-distance runner born on July 5, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. He notably became the first Illinois native to break the four-minute mile barrier with a time of 3:59.4 in 1963. O'Hara set world records for the fastest indoor mile, achieving times of 3:56.6 and 3:56.4 in 1964. He excelled at St. Ignatius College Prep and continued his athletic career at Loyola University Chicago, winning the NCAA Men's Division I Cross Country Championship in 1962 and competing in the 1500 m event at the 1964 Summer Olympics.
