Tomo Matsui is a Japanese children's literature author born on March 2, 1953, in Tokyo. He is the eldest son of Matsui Osamu and sibling to children's author Sakiko Kofu. Matsui graduated from Sophia University's German Literature Department and later studied at the University of Salzburg in Austria. He served as the first editor-in-chief of the children's book division at Futabasha and founded the Mindanao Children's Library in the Philippines. Matsui initially translated and wrote critiques of German literature before publishing his own children's books.
