Tomoe Sawa is a Japanese singer-songwriter born on February 14, 1971, in Kanagawa Prefecture. As a piano-playing vocalist, she began her music career while attending Tokyo University of the Arts. Sawa is notable for being the first Japanese national allowed to sing in Japanese in Korea since World War II. She has released 28 albums and annually performs free concerts at a Hansen's disease sanatorium. Her musical style is heavily influenced by Christian hymns and various forms of Black music, showcasing her unique cultural background.
