Tomonari Sumitomo was born on February 20, 1909, and passed away on June 14, 1993. He was the 16th head of the Sumitomo family and the last president of the Sumitomo Main Office. Besides his business endeavors, he was also a poet associated with the Araragi school and maintained connections with notable figures like Mokichi Saito and Jun Kawada. His pen name was Izumi Kōkichi, and he held the title of baron. He is a seventh-generation descendant of Emperor Go-Uda.
