Toni Casalonga is a French painter, sculptor, scenographer, and director born on May 8, 1938, in Ajaccio. He studied painting at the Beaux-Arts in Paris and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, later learning engraving from Stanley William Hayter at Atelier 17. In the 1960s, he returned to Corsica and became a pivotal figure in the Riacquistu movement, which focused on reclaiming Corsican identity and language. He founded the Corsicada cooperative in 1964 and was the first president of the Council of Culture from 1983 to 1989, and of the Economic, Social, and Cultural Council from 1993 to 1998.
