He served as a senator in the Romanian Parliament from 2008 to 2012 representing the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and was re-elected in the 2012 legislative elections as a senator from Gorj. Currently, he holds the position of president of the Permanent Electoral Authority, overseeing electoral processes in Romania.
