He served in various political roles, including as a member of the Steinkjer municipal council and as deputy mayor from 1995 to 2003. Jensen was involved in regional politics as a representative for Nord-Trøndelag and later Trøndelag county councils and held positions in transportation and environmental planning. A retired major of the Army, he spent most of his career in Steinkjersannan and was also a capable football player and coach during the 1970s.
